Training and "Flight School"

"A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way."
Mark Twain

No one learns to be a dentist by reading a book. No one learns to fly an airplane with only “ground school” training. Both take “hands-on” experience with someone looking over your shoulder while you practice your skills.

Operating a computerized, high-tech dental practice takes skills that can only be acquired this same way. Just like learning to fly an airplane, ground school is vital so you get the basic understanding you will need. But to become proficient, you need to have actual “flight school” practice. This is the type of training we offer.

Our goal is to allow staff to learn to “fly” a computerized dental practice. Ground school covers software basics.  Flight school covers real world experience in effective computerized practice management and office systems. It’s the little “secrets” that make the big difference when using dental computers. Whether you are already a “Top Gun” pilot or still need some training before you “solo” for the first time, we can show you some tricks to make your office more efficient, your practice more profitable and your life a lot easier!

Three Training Options:

  1. In Our Office: We set aside time so you can have our undivided attention. You have the opportunity to actually see and use our computers in a “chartless” and “paperless” environment. This provides a true “emersion” and is very effective for both doctors and key staff. There is a two-hour minimum and involves your travel to our office in San Leandro, CA (We are about 10 minutes from the Oakland Airport and about 40 to 90 minutes from the San Francisco Airport, depending upon traffic conditions. Nearby overnight accommodations with a shuttle to and from our office and the Oakland Airport can be arranged.)
  2. Internet Training: This is true “over the shoulder” training for one or two people and does not involve leaving your home or office!  Using our Internet remote control computer system, your staff only needs an Internet connection and browser to log on to our system and practice with our real-life data set. The trainer and trainee both see the same screen, can both use the mouse and keyboard, and can talk to each other directly. This one-on-one interaction is by far the best way to get people up and running quickly.  All you need a broadband Internet connection (DSL or cable) and a comfortable chair! There is only a one-hour training minimum so you can avoid the “Microsoft Migraines” caused by marathon sessions.
  3. In Your Office: On-site training in your office can be arranged but is best done after your staff has a good understanding of the basics of your Practice Management Software. These sessions should be done when no patients are in the office and should definitely include the doctor! These sessions have a four-hour minimum and may include additional travel time.

Flight School Modules available over the Internet: each module consists of two two-hour sessions . One to Three of your staff can be trained simultaneously for no additional cost.

  1. Computerized Accounts Receivables Management:  Our objective is achieving an AR balance of 75% of monthly production. It does not involve moving to an “all cash” practice or dropping insurance participation. It does involve using your existing computer system differently. The skill sets we teach can be used by any office manager or receptionist to make her/his job easier while collecting more money for the practice.
  2. Computerized Appointment Scheduling:  Our objective is achieving increasing monthly production by 35% without adding hours or changing the mix of the procedures you do.  People tend to stick with the same old ways of doing things but computerized schedulers offer many “hidden secrets” that were just not possible with a paper book. How much “doctor time” is wasted by efficient old habits because no one ever showed staff a better, easier way to do scheduling?
  3. “Back Office” Computing; Data Entry, Clinical Charting & Digital Imaging:  Our objective is to have chairsides and hygienists enter all treatment plans, post all completed procedures, and supply clear documentation for insurance carriers for all completed procedures. The advantages of “back office” appointment scheduling, especially for hygienists, will be covered.
  4. Computerized Hygiene: Our goal is to have hygienists provide better patient care and patient motivation by using some of the very easy computerized tools for both perio and restorative dentistry. Few hygienists have ever been shown just what computers can do to make their jobs easier and to give them more control over their own schedule.
  5. "Paperless Dentistry:"  Great idea but how do you actually do it?  This module contains the "nuts & bolts," the specific steps for doing clinical charting, lab slips, financial arrangements, treatment planning, patient education, recare ... everything ... in a "paperless" environment.

All training is done by hygienists, practice managers or chairside staff who have worked in a Paperless Practice for over 10 years.
